Welcome! We are the Austrian Pirate Party (PPÖ). The party was founded on July 31st. Our aims are similiar to the ones of the Swedish Pirate Party (Piratpartiet).
Our goals are:
- A reformation of the patent rights; software patents, however, should be abolished.
- A reformation of the copyright:
- No punishment of copying media for private, noncommercial uses
- Shorten the protection period copyright grants to 5 years (currently it lasts 70 years beginning from the author's death)
- Musicians need to be treated like book authors. They should be able to own the rights of their works and license them to a label until the contract runs out.
- Outlawing DRM (Digital Rights Management) technology.
- Bring back citizens right to privacy
- abolish the eu data retention directive
- stop european countries from becoming police states
Due to the founding of the austrian party being pretty close the austrian elections 2006, we're heading towards participating in the european parliament elections in 2009. Pirate parties from all over europe will run for office together then.
We have a partnership with monochrom, an Austrian artist group.
